Necon Media Project
The North Eastern Writers Conference (Necon) is a community of horror writers, artists, editors and fans who meet on the 3rd week of July every year. Unlike any other convention, Necon is often described by its attendees as a camp and just like camp everyone who goes has a transformational experience. What makes Necon unique is that everyone has their hair down, there are no pretensions, there is no separation between the professionals and the fans. The Necon Media Project is an archive of interviews and other media that document the community of Necon. We undertook this project to learn from those we admire, to create a historical record of the community and to collect stories about story tellers.
Dallas Mayr & Phil Nutman both knew how to live.
Bob Booth, founder of Necon. We miss you Papa.
Rick Hautala, gone too soon, but never forgotten.
Phil Nutman remembered and missed.
Bob Booth / An Interview / 2012
Bob Booth founded Necon and launched an incredible community of writers, artists, editors and fans. He created an atmosphere where everyone could have their hair down and interact without barriers. Known as Papa Necon, Bob would talk to anyone, listen to what they had to say and leave them full of encouragement and excitement to write/read/create.
This interview was conducted at Necon 2012.
L.L. Soares / An Interview / 2023
An interview with Stoker award winning horror writer L.L. Soares. Conducted at Necon 2023. We discuss Soares’s work, influences, writers, music, film and concerns for the world.
Behind the scenes note: we had to cut this as an audio interview since there was a malfunction with the camera. If you listen carefully at parts you can hear our cats attacking the backdrop.
